The ACT Relationship Skills Workbook for Teens: Getting to Know Your Relationship Patterns, Boundaries, and Values for Happier, Healthier Connections

by Sheri L. Turrell PhD & Mary Bell MSW RSW

Relationships are tough. Family, friendships, romance - they've all got their own complications. So, what can you do?

We're all wired differently and programmed to think and react in certain ways. Are you a people-pleaser or someone who trusts too easily? Do you find it hard to put your guard down or often compare yourself to others? This book helps you to see how your programming affects the way you communicate and relate to others, and gives you the tools to upgrade it.

Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a positive, practical approach for getting in touch with who and what matters to you and learning to take your thoughts and feelings with you to reach your goals, this book will give you the tools to get to know your own values, build healthy boundaries, and boost your communication skills. It will help you to better understand yourself so that you can build happy, healthy relationships.

Reviews of The Act Relationship Skills Workbook for Teens

Every teenager can benefit from the wonderful resources within these pages. Written with wisdom, compassion, and humour, this enjoyable and life-changing book offers many powerful skills and strategies to overcome social problems, and build rich and meaningful relationships. — Dr Russ Harris, author of The Happiness Trap

This book gives young people a real new way of looking at what is most important to them: relationships. Relatable technology metaphors help us understand things like boundaries and how to keep track of how we relate to others. I highly recommend this book for adolescents and adults. — Ralf Steinkopff, Peer Reviewed ACT Trainer, Licensed Psychotherapist and Psychologist

I think it was really good the way this book expressed how other people feel their emotions the same way that I do. I liked how the authors used examples of young people's emotions in different scenarios throughout the book. This helped me to understand my own emotions. — Bláthnaid, age 14

Choose Your Life
COURSE ACCESS_FREE PREVIEWS.png

Choose Your Life (CYL) – an experiential self-help course for adolescents and young adults, is ready! If you have run out of ways to try to get rid of, or quiet down, worry, stress, shame, anger, or sadness, try CYL!

Join me and my colleagues, Dr. Sara Ahola Kohut and Erin Lipsitt, MSW, as we guide you through CYL. You'll also meet Devlin, an older teen who tried CYL and shares his experiences along the way!

CYL is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an approach that will teach you to take your thoughts and feelings with you, while you put your time and energy into who and what matters.

This approach has a lot of scientific support and has helped me to help my patients make the changes they want, so their life is more meaningful and purposeful.

I created this program to benefit young people who may not have access to a therapist who is skilled with ACT, who may not be able to afford individual therapy, or who prefer to move at their own pace in the privacy of their own home.

Parents - New Video Series

We’d like to let you know about a new online parent video series we’ve developed.  It’s intended to be used in conjunction with our Instant Help teen book “The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Teen Anxiety” (Sheri Turrell, Chris McCurry, & Mary Bell).  The videos summarize the content of the teen book and give parents some ideas of experiential exercises to try for themselves as they deal with their own emotions, and their teens’.

Video Series

Video series by Sheri about getting started in therapy, common misperceptions about therapy, “the snowball effect,” and different things people usually struggle with. Check regulary for new videos!
